Cartridge length?
Hi! First of all let me say that this is great practice ammo. If there were half stars on this scale I would've given 4.5 stars just because of a couple of nits I want to pick. I've purchased two of these "new brass 500 rounds" 9mm units, great price, shipped quickly, and for the most part I'm very pleased. I like to take these loose bullets and put them into old cartridge boxes so that I can keep count of how many I'm using on a range trip. As I'm putting bullets into the old boxes I noticed that a few are not level with the rest of the box. I pulled out my calipers to measure a few of these bullets. Some of the 'total length' measurements: 28.76mm, 28.68mm. 29.10mm, 28.72mm, 29.89mm. My research shows that the maximum overall length of a 9mm cartridge should be 29.69mm. After 300 rounds from my first batch there were a couple of FTF malfunctions, cured quickly by a "tap and rack". The bullets fired just fine once chambered. I'm wondering if the longer cartridges are getting hung up on the feed ramp. I realize everything, every component, has tolerances and "tolerance stacking" between magazine, pistol, barrel, etc, can cause malfunctions. I will continue to buy this product but would encourage Capital Cartridge to keep a vigilant watch on its manufacturing processes so that extra long cartridges are a very rare occurrence. Thanks!
